Russia Retaliates with Ban on Food Imports from the WestRussia Retaliates with Ban on Food Imports from the West
- August 7, 2014
Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a ban on food imports from the United States, Canada and Europe in response to sanctions imposed by those nations. A one year ban has been imposed on beef, poultry, pork, fish, fruit, vegetables, and dairy products. The Obama administration does not foresee much impact on the U.S. economy in light of this ban. The impact may be harder on Russians as they further isolate themselves.
Russia also threatened to ban U.S. and European air carriers from transiting Russian air space. Many carriers fly over Siberia en route to Asian destinations.
