Operational Delays Expected at Ports of Los Angeles/Long BeachOperational Delays Expected at Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach
- April 10, 2023
An insufficient number of International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 13 crane operators and top handler drivers reported for work at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as of 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Any ILWU workers that did report for their shift as scheduled were sent home, and the terminals were subsequently closed for Thursday night shifts. All vessel, yard, rail and gate operations for the night were suspended as a result.
Four terminals were also closed on Friday, April 7 due to continued ILWU no-shows; however, workers returned on Saturday, April 8.
Although normal operations have resumed at the ports, delays to cargo discharge, availability and rail departures are expected in the coming days.
Shapiro is actively monitoring the situation and will provide status updates as they become available.
