The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has started to actively enforce its requirements for facilities to have a valid Food Facility Registration (FFR) and for facilities to provide a valid Unique Facility Finder (UFI)—also known as a DUNS number—when renewing their registration.

Enforcement of these requirements officially commenced on January 1, 2023; however, the FDA provided a 60-day grace period for facilities to comply.

Now that the grace period is over, the FDA has begun removing facilities with invalid registrations from its databases, and products shipped to the US without a valid registration will be detained at the port of entry.

As a result, it’s crucial for importers to ensure that their registration has been renewed as soon as possible to avoid costly detentions and/or delays.
