After entering an official lockout yesterday, Canada rail operations are expected to resume after the Canadian Government ordered the CPKC and CN to enter binding arbitration. The action came 16 hours after Teamsters’ workers were locked out over the labor agreement impasse. CPKC has not released an official statement, but CN said it would resume operations as of 6pm last night. Teamsters has also released a statement indicating they are consulting with attorneys regarding the order and are “deeply disappointed” with the decision.

Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon expects trains will resume moving within days, but embargoes will remain in place likely for a few days.

Shapiro will continue to monitor this ongoing situation and provide status updates as we receive them.
