As we alluded to in our Flash yesterday, today the Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) initiated a lockout of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), impacting approximately 9,000 workers, including conductors and engineers. There has been no indication of when a resolution might be reached or how long the lockout could persist. This action affects intermodal container traffic to and from Canada’s marine terminals, although cargo owners can still collect cargo that has already arrived at port.

Services provided by CN and CPKC outside of Canada are not impacted by the lockout. Specifically, CPKC’s Mexico-Midwest Express, the Falcon Premium route between Mexico and Detroit, and CN’s operations in the US Gulf and Midwest regions continue to operate as usual.

As always, Shapiro will continue to monitor the situation and provide status updates as we receive them.
