CBP Announces Duty Deferrals Due to COVID-19 DisruptionsCBP Announces Duty Deferrals Due to COVID-19 Disruptions
- March 22, 2020
Due to the severity of Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that they will approve, on a case-by-case basis, additional days for payment of estimated duties, taxes and fees due to this emergency. They have asked that requests be directed to the Office of Trade, Trade Policy and Programs at [email protected].
Unfortunately, at this time, CBP has provided no further detail about the duration of the delay or the process; but they have indicated that a Federal Register Notice that outlines a broader policy will be published shortly.
Please note as well that CBP has confirmed that the March 20, 2020 debit authorizations for the Periodic Monthly Statements and the daily statements have been transmitted to the Department of Treasury. Please work directly AND IMMEDIATELY with your financial institution if you wish to prevent these funds from being withdrawn.
Shapiro will continue to monitor this situation and advise you of any developments.
