- November 27, 2013
Port of Oakland Truckers Association are planning to walk off the job on Wednesday, Nov. 27th in spite of meeting with various port officials and local industry leaders, including Oakland Mayor Jean Quan.
This work action, timed during the busy Thanksgiving holiday week, is expected to result in delays at the port for both inbound and outbound traffic. The Port of Oakland Truckers Association points to demands for better pay and compensation for long wait times at the terminal. Port officials are looking to continue discussions while at the same time preparing for contingencies to keep the terminals open and operating should there be a strike; according to the San Francisco Chronicle. At the moment, courts have issued a temporary restraining order that will prohibit the blocking of traffic in or around the port.
Shapiro will continue to monitor these ongoing negotiations.
